About the event
The Sickle Cell Boot Camp to Promote Nursing Excellence Nationally and Globally Utilizing a Train the Trainer Model addresses the critical need for specialized education and training for nurses who care for sickle cell patients.
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) affects 100,000 people in the U.S., but education about the disease in nursing schools is limited. This effort is a collaboration of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (SJCRH), and the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Professional Associates (IASCNAPA). It is funded by UTHSC, SJCRH, and a Delta Health Care Services grant.
The SCD nursing bootcamp was developed using an evidenced-based SCD curriculum developed by nursing experts from throughout the US. Curriculum developers and instructors include Drs. Dominique Bulgin, Elisabeth Chismark, Sara Day, Artangela Henry, Cheedy Jaja, Stephanie Ibemere, Cheryl Brewer, Dora Clayton-Jones, Keesha Roach, Selorm Ansah, Lori Vick, Christina Wills and Kathy Burns, Yvonne Carroll, Pat Corley, Rae Blaylark, Brooke Clemons, Jackie Carter, and Charlene Sylvestre.
